3 Ways to Prepare for SearchGPT

AI’s integration into SEO is not new, but it is happening on a new level.

In the same way we’d ask a friend for a recommendation on what headphones to buy for a long flight, or where to find a bathing suit that fits just right, or which digital marketing agency to use, people are starting to use ChatGPT for product and service company recommendations.

Enter “SearchGPT”.

Now that ChatGPT is used instead of Google (or in conjunction with Google), brands need to adapt their SEO in order to “rank” in SearchGPT.

According to fellow digital marketing and SEO expert Neil Patel, the three most important ranking factors for being recommended by AI chatbots are 1) brand mentions, 2) relevancy, and 3) reviews.

Source is here.

Neil and his team determined this by analyzing 82 ranking factors related to 100 questions about product recommendations like:

  • What’s the best laptop for college students?

  • What’s a great credit card when you have a low credit score?

  • What’s the best electric SUV?

  • What headphone brand should I buy for watching movies?

This data was given to a statistician to analyze. Based on that analysis, here are the top 3 ways to prepare for ranking on ChatGPT (aka SearchGPT).

1. Boost Your Brand Mentions

Why It Matters:

Brand mentions are crucial because they signal to search engines and AI chatbots that your brand is authoritative and trusted. The more your brand is mentioned across the web, the more likely it is to be recommended by AI chatbots like ChatGPT.

How to Achieve It:

  1. Public Relations (PR): Invest in a robust PR strategy to increase your brand’s visibility. Engage with journalists, bloggers, and influencers to get your brand featured in articles, interviews, and social media posts.

  2. Content Marketing: Create high-quality, shareable content that others will reference and link to. Blog posts, infographics, and videos that provide valuable insights can naturally attract mentions.

  3. Guest Blogging: Write guest posts for reputable websites in your industry. This not only helps with brand mentions but also positions you as an authority in your field and usually includes a backlink.

2. Focus on Relevancy

Why It Matters:

Relevancy is all about how well your content matches the search intent of users – that’s a fancy way of saying “what people are searching for”. AI chatbots like ChatGPT prioritize content that is highly relevant to the queries they receive, making this a critical factor for visibility in ChatGPT.

How to Achieve It:

  1. On-Site SEO: Continuously optimize your website’s SEO. Ensure that your keywords are strategically placed in titles, headers, and throughout your content. Use tools like Google Analytics and Ahrefs to identify relevant keywords and monitor your performance.

  2. High Quality Content: Create content that addresses the needs and questions of your audience. The more relevant and comprehensive your content is, the better it will perform in search rankings.

  3. User Experience: Improve the overall user experience of your website. A site that is easy to navigate and provides valuable information quickly will rank higher for relevancy.

3. Gather More Reviews

Why It Matters:

Reviews are a powerful form of social proof and play a significant role in building trust and credibility. AI chatbots like SearchGPT consider reviews when recommending products and services, making them essential for your online strategy.

How to Achieve It:

  1. Google Business Profile: Encourage satisfied customers to leave reviews on your Google Business Profile. This can significantly boost your local SEO and visibility in search results.

  2. TrustPilot, Capterra, Yelp and other review websites: Maintain active profiles on review platforms like TrustPilot, Capterra (for software), Yelp, etc. Regularly monitor and respond to reviews to show that you value customer feedback.

  3. Website Reviews: Make it easy for customers to leave reviews on your website, particularly on product pages.

Summary

AI in search is not new. In fact, “SearchGPT” is already being used today, and it will continue to transform how we find and choose brands and services. Moreover, SearchGPT will have a major impact on how we decide which brands to buy from and which service companies to hire.
